Fantstic 4 not that fantastic.
Though Marvel has hit recent home runs with Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, their Fantastic 4 movies have a lot to be desired for. The Silver Surfer just looks to CGI and there just doesn't seem to be anything worth while going on in the movie. There doesn't seem to be any chemistry between Sue Storm and Mr. Fantastic, mostly due to no real characterization in this or the first movie. They intend to get married through out the film, which just doesn't work for a this second film. Maybe if there would be a third movie, do it there, but with no chemistry between the actors and actresses, no great action sequences, the film seems to fall flat.

cheesy fun
Okay, let me just get this out of the way: Jessica Alba should never again dye her hair blonde. It looks idiotic. And I like Jessica Alba.
Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) and Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) are trying to have a wedding. But fame and Weird Stuff Going On (caused by the arrival of the Silver Surfer) keep interrupting their plans.
The military demands that Reed solve the problem, and Sue demands that he give their wedding all his attention, so he keeps his work on the problem secret from her. Which of course causes more problems than just admitting it.
I have to admit I'm not even remotely familiar with the FF comics, so I'm just along for the ride.
We've got the 4 of them, dealing variously with their fame, which I liked very much.
We've got Reed keeping secrets from Sue and the two of them trying to get married but getting interrupted, which I also liked very much.
We've got a wonderful sequence when the Silver Surfer causes them all to switch powers, that's both funny (Sue gets her brother's fire) and poignant (Ben's temporarily himself again, and not The Thing), which I liked very much.
We've got the return of Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon), who's conned the military, which I liked very much.
And we've got the 4 superheroes fighting--not only the bad guys, but fighting ignorance by being smart and trying to figure out who the Silver Surfer is and why he's doing what he's doing. And I liked that very much as well.
Fun special effects, too.
It's not a perfect movie--it's over-the-top and cheesy--but it's supposed to be--it's a comic-book movie. Great fun. I enjoyed it.

OK, Mindless Fun
It was pretty much what I expected, so I wasn't that disappointed. Better than "Where the Heart Is".

All that you know is at an end!
Unfortunately, that title holds true for this Fantastic Four movie. I remember the days of my youth reading the ole Fantastic Four comics, drinking a soda, and arguing who was the strongest character from the series. Of course, the answer was, the Silver Surfer. So imagine how excited I was when Norrin Radd was to make an appearance in this film. Well, after months of promos, I must say, all my anticipation went straight to disappointment.
There are really only two scenes I enjoyed. And the first begins nearly thirty minutes into this boring rendition of Fantastic Four issue 48. The chase scene. The chase by Johnny Storm to catch the Silver Surfer. This is, without a doubt, the best scene in the movie. The next scene is shortly after "the chase" when Sue Storm acquires the power of the Human Torch. Though, to be fair, I just like seeing Jessica Alba.
The plot of the movie is somewhat similar to the 60's comic. The Silver Surfer finds Earth and decides it is a suitable feeding ground for his master Galactus. However, in the comic the Surfer meets a blind sculptress, Alicia Masters who re-awakens his conscience. In the movie that role is played by the Invisible Woman. In the comic, Galactus is the source of the Surfer's power. In the movie, the source is his board. In the comic, the only way to stop the all-powerful Galactus is by using the Ultimate Nullifier. In the movie, the Surfer is able to thwart his plans.
So, the movie doesn't remain faithful to the original script, who cares. That isn't the reason this movie scores a two. It scores a two because the movie is completely boring and you'll find yourself waiting for the scenes with the guy covered in silver flying this ... surf board. The ending does offer hope. Though reports say that they'll be making no more Fantastic Four movies, the stage is set to make Silver Surfer movies. With story lines that seem limitless, one can only imagine how great these will be. That is, of course, unless they, turn Galactus into a cloud of smoke.

Fantastic!
Ok, so it was only 90 min. So Galactus was more or less a "cloud" (Studio saving him for Silver Surfer stand-alone movie). But, being a fan of the 1st film, this movie was again enjoyable. I hope to see a FF 3 soon!
