James Garner trumps anything you could ever be.
Who knew that James Garner was as good, if not better, than Rock Hudson? We did. We watchers of Maverick, Marlowe, Nichols, Rockford Files.
And here, in the midst of a romantic comedy, Garner finds room to take care of a woman who was his supposedly deceased wife, and he loves her with no loss of care and passion, if mixed with a little surprise.
If there is room in this movie for a bit of mid-century American confusion as sexual roles shifted and morphed, Garner did not cop out and look for a safe new-world harbor; he hung in and tried to hold onto the certainty that a wife would want to cling to.
And that, in the timeframe of this movie, is what happy endings look like. And good for them. And bad for us, for no longer having any underpinnings.

Move Over Darling is a clean and very funny movie!
If you are a James Garner or Doris Day fan, and you love to laugh, this movie is for you. Doris Day's character had been on a desert island for 5 years and comes back on the day James Garner's character gets remarried. They just don't make them like this anymore. It is clean funny movie. Fun for all ages, I highly recommend it!

Doris Day Fan
This is one of Doris Day's cutest movies. I love it!! Back in the day it was so nice to have great comedies that didn't have to rely on filth to be funny. We need to get back to that.

Romantic Comedy
The original film in 1911 was titled "Enoch Arden" and was inspired by the poem of the same name by Alfred Lord Tennyson. In 1940 the movie "My Favorite Wife" was made. It, like this re-make is a comic inversion of Enoch Arden poem and movie. In this 1960's remake a man who is ready to have his missing wife declared legally dead and remarry finds himself in a predicament when his first wife turns up after five years of being gone!
This remake turned out to be a hit right when 20th Century FOX studios had to have income. There is no question Doris Day made this remake so popular. She is the girl next door who brings her own innocent charm and comic skill to a movie the whole family can watch. The digital remastering of the original master makes the movie quality look better then it did when originally released. The DVD also has behind-the-scenes filmmaking documentary, a Marilyn vs. Doris featurette, a welcome chat with Polly Bergen and Part II of D. W. Griffith silent drama, ENOCH ARDEN (1911). This is an enjoyable DVD.

Excellent Movie - Don't Miss this one on DVD!
The studios did a wonderful job in restoring this classic movie. It's always been a favorite, but the restoration made it all the better. In my opinion this is one of Doris Day's best comedy movies ever!!! The car wash scene is the best in the movie!
