Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great workout DVD for a non "workout" person...
I am an avid pilates practitioner and have never really been happy with more traditional approaches to working out. That said, I went ahead and bought this dvd because I love Jackie's Bravo show and I was intrigued to see her in action. I actually really like the DVD and have used it to compliment my pilates practice.

The video is broken up into three sections for core, upper body, and lower body, and you can set the DVD to play any combination of the three in any order, which is very cool. Each section is about 20 minutes long and consists of short exercise sections mixed with shorter cardio exercises (the cardio exercises are designed to reinfornce the muscle groups worked in the previous exercises). I like this approach because it's short enough that I can easily complete it (or at least have no time-based excuses not to do them). Also, I like that each section is broken into smaller sections because it keeps the pace interesting. The upper and lower body sections each have 4 sections (alternately featuring each of the 4 trainers on the video). The abs section is broken into smaller sections, but all trainers do each section (though different trainers demonstrate modifications to make the exercises easier or harder).

The upper body section is great for me. It's pretty challenging, although I use pretty heavy weights (8lbs). There are a few exercises that I do not use the weights on because it's difficult, but mostly I can keep up with the heavier weights. Jackie's instructions discuss posture heavily, and I find that doing the postures correctly challenges the core on each exercise. I appreciate this because I'm not a huge exercise freak, so any way to consolidate is greatly appreciated!

The lower body section is nice, although it can get a little repetitve. Many of the exercises are similar (mostly squat and lunge variations), although I do LOVE the final section featuring Rebecca, which focuses on lower back and glutes. I have pretty strong legs, so this section isn't terribly difficult for me. However, this section is the most cardiovascularly challening for me.

The core section is good, although it is probably my least favorite. It's a little too "intense" for me in terms of the energy required. The exercises are great and very effective, but I'm used to pilates which is slow and controlled, and some of the exercises move a little fast for my tastes. However, if you want an intense core workout, this is a great option. There are a few new exercises featured here that I've never seen before and are very cool. For example, the penguin heel taps are challenging and fun.

Overall, I like Jackie's approach and the pacing of her workouts make them easy to stay motivated. For example, she does most exercises for 1 minute. At several times she reminds you that "you can do anything for a minute", and this often helps me get to the end of an exercise that is REALLY burning.

ENJOY!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great workouts, perfect setup!
I loved Jackie's style on the Bravo show and was excited to try this out! I'm in reasonably good shape, though not a bodybuilder by any means, and I found it to be QUITE challenging - not so much that I couldn't keep up, but enough to make it more than worth my while!

I also love that it is segmented into Upper Body, Lower Body, and Core, and that you can do one at a time or combine them any way you like. That is a great feature for people who may only have a short time for working out and who like to rotate which body parts they strengthen on each day.

This is sort of unrelated to the quality of the workouts, but being a fan of the show, I like watching the interplay between Jackie and her staff. I feel almost like I'm working out with friends. Really, really, really fit friends.

I tend to buy a lot of workout videos and never use them, and this is one I keep coming back to both for challenge and convenience (nice short hard workouts are the way to go). Great job Jackie!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love it
I purchased it recently and with 5 other dvd workouts, and find out that I'm only doing this one, and I have so much fun doing it. It combines strenght with cardio, instructors change, there is not much repetition and 20 minutes goes by before you know it. I do one workout per day, although you can do all 3 of them at once, but I'm not in that good shape. My favorite is upper body workout.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love it!
This workout kicks your butt and burns mega calories. I was a "Firm" believer, but their workouts just weren't buring the calories I needed. Jackie's workout burns double the calories compared to Firm's. A 20 minute Jackie workout burns the same as a 40 minute Firm workout. The exercises are challenging yet easy to follow. In 3 weeks I have definitely seen new definition that I did not get with the Firm workouts. It's fun watching her with the other trainers. This is good for beginners or advanced. Just add more weight to increase the challenge. There were new exercises I had not seen before and I love them!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Enjoyed this workout
This is a good workout that had me sore the first time I tried it. I did find that I couldn't do the entire section of each focused muscle group, but that's probably because I'm not in good shape. I simply stopped that group and went to the next, which was relatively easy to do with the DVD.

A Brazilian artist named Vivian Caccuri has put together an installation that uses the movements of live fish to remix the music played on an MP3 player. These fish are tracked using a proximity sensor and their activities trigger adjustments in processing levels, distortion and speaker fade to create a unique sound. Sure, it is about as pointless as snails being used to send email, but it is definitely relaxing to watch. [Vivian Caccuri via Crave]
